The recurrent and brutal slaughter of members of the Nigerian Armed Forces and law enforcement, particularly in northern Nigeria, is a national disgrace that highlights the administration’s gross negligence and ineptitude.
Under Tinubu’s leadership, the Nigerian government has failed to protect its citizens and uphold the constitutional mandate to ensure safety and security. This failure is most glaring in the administration’s inability to combat the persistent threats posed by ISWAP, Boko Haram and other terrorist groups. These insurgents operate with alarming impunity, inflicting violence on innocent civilians and routinely ambushing and killing Nigerian military personnel.
The recent article in The Guardian, which reported that terrorists have ambushed and killed over 50 soldiers and officers in just eight months, underscores the severity of this crisis. Such frequent and fatal attacks on our military forces are virtually unheard of in countries like the United States, where the murder of armed forces members on home soil is an exceptionally rare event. In contrast, in Tinubu’s Nigeria, we wake up daily to news of soldiers and police officers being slaughtered like flies, particularly in the northern regions.
Niger State is one of the worst-hit by these relentless attacks. Just two months ago, in Shiroro Local Government Area, two officers and four soldiers were ambushed and killed while on patrol. Similarly, in Katsina State, bandits killed about 20 people, including four police officers and two Community Watch Corps operatives, during an attack on Gidan Tofa and Dan Nakwabo villages.
Adding insult to injury, Tinubu’s administration proposes to pay these brave service members a paltry minimum wage of 62,000 naira – an amount that is less than the cost of a steak dinner at Texas Roadhouse. This derisory pay not only fails to recognize the sacrifices made by our armed forces but also underscores the administration’s callous disregard for their lives. By this negligence, Tinubu is effectively treating the lives of Nigerian military personnel as worthless.
The cowardice and ineffective strategies of Tinubu’s administration in confronting these threats are a national embarrassment. The government’s failure to safeguard the lives of its citizens and military personnel is not just a breach of constitutional duty but a profound moral failing that undermines the very essence of national security and sovereignty.
Tinubu’s tenure thus far has been marked by a dismal and dangerous failure to address the insecurity plaguing Nigeria. It is imperative that this administration reassess its priorities and implement effective, strategic measures to combat these threats, honor the sacrifices of our armed forces, and restore the safety and security of the nation.
