Nigerian Students Evacuated From Sudan Still Stranded At Egypt Border –Abike-Dabiri

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCom) has said that the Egyptian government has still not opened its border for the airlifting of Nigerian students evacuated to the country from warring Sudan.

The government earlier said that Nigerians evacuated from Sudan were stranded on Egypt’s border, as the authorities demanded that normal visa protocols must be followed.

The first set of Nigerians evacuated from Sudan arrived in Egypt on Thursday evening but met the border closed.

The Nigerian government had arranged for buses to transport its stranded citizens in Sudan to neighbouring Egypt where it would be safe to airlift them to Nigeria.

However, NiDCOM on Monday morning announced on its Twitter handle that the Egyptian authorities were yet to open their border for Nigerians.

“The Egyptian border still not opened for our students, but the Nigeria Airforce is ready, the NAF C 130 landed in Aswan Airport, and they say ‘We will not leave without our students.
